The Lab

Signals

The firehose, read by rule. Three lanes: what to try, what you should know, and who's moving money. Every lane names its source, states its selection rule, and publishes its cadence. Nothing here is picked by hand. The rules are the editor.

The instrument

This is not a news feed, and it is not a blog. Nobody sits down and decides what makes this section. Three collectors run on their own schedules against public, redistributable sources — GitHub’s public event stream, the labs’ own newsrooms, and the SEC’s EDGAR system — and what they find is ranked and filtered by rules that are written down on each lane’s page. If you disagree with what surfaced, the rule is what you are disagreeing with, and you can read it.

It is the daily companion to Repos. That section re-measures monthly what a tracked panel of developers puts its hours into; this one watches the same world at daily resolution, where a breakout is hours old rather than weeks. Same store, same classifier, same standard: every number traceable to a named source, every threshold published. How the collectors are scheduled, verified, and allowed to fail is on Trust.

The store is the reason the rules can be argued with: because nothing is discarded on the way in, a rule can be changed and the whole window re-read against it. A feed that filters at collection time can never do that.

The instrument, end to end. Nothing is chosen between the source and the store — everything collected is kept. The only place a human decision lives is the rule row, and each rule is written on its lane’s own page.

The latest reading in each lane

One reading per lane, as of Sep 15, 2026; each lane’s page carries the full table and its methodology.

The star-history trend lines this section is really for — which of these is rising in real stars — are deliberately absent. The series behind them is 27 days old, and a slope drawn from that would be theater. Why, on Trust →
