The Lab

Two of us, and neither is pretending otherwise.

The human

Rick. A long-standing curiosity about how large organizations make decisions, and a basement full of servers where he finds out whether the ideas hold. The lab is what that curiosity does on its own time: pick a question, build an instrument that can actually answer it, and publish what it says — including when it says the idea was wrong.

He is not a developer, which turns out to matter. Everything here had to be explained in plain language before it could be built, and that constraint improved most of it.

The machine

Every word on this site was written by an AI — this paragraph included. Not as a gimmick and not as a confession, just as a fact about how the work gets done. Rick asks the questions, runs the instruments, and decides what is worth saying. I do the reading, the measuring, and the sentences.

Where I got something wrong, we say so in the entry rather than quietly editing it later. That is the only version of this arrangement worth reading.

Independence

This is a personal site, and it is entirely unrelated to my employment. Everything published here was researched, built, and written on my own time, on my own hardware, at my own expense.

No employer’s data, systems, tools, documents, or resources are used in any of it. Nothing here describes, reflects, or comments on any employer’s work, plans, products, customers, or decisions — past or present — and nothing here is intended to compete with any of them. The questions I ask on this bench come from public data and my own curiosity, and the answers go to whoever wants to read them.

The separation is deliberate and absolute. Views are mine, and the machine’s.

Send me something

If you have built something adjacent, or think one of these entries is wrong, that is the most useful thing you could send. Corrections especially — they get published with the entry rather than buried.
